My Girl - Madness

We used this to introduce the topic of arguments. The lines are out of order - sts need to put them back to the correct order.

My Girl – Madness (1979) (st)

My girl's mad at me
She thought I'd had enough of her
I found it hard to say
I didn't wanna see the film tonight

Why can't she see
Every now and then
But I like to stay in
She's lovely to me?
And watch t.v. on my own

My girl's mad at me
I tried and tried but I could not be heard
Been on the telephone for an hour
We hardly said a word

She doesn't realise
Why can't I explain?
'Cause everything I say
She doesn't understand
Why do I feel this pain?
She takes it all the wrong way

We argued just the other night
My girl's mad at me
We talked and talked until it was light
I thought we'd got it straight

She says I'm unaware
I thought we'd talked it out
She says that I don't care
And now she says I'm weak
I thought we'd agreed
Now when I try to speak

The Logical Song - Supertramp

I used this to review the idea of suffixes with my CAE group

The Logical Song – Supertramp

When I was young
It seemed that life was so ................... (wonder)
A miracle, oh it was ...................... (beauty), ....................... (magic)
And all the birds in the trees
Well they'd be singing so .................... (happy)
.................... (Joyful), ................... (playful) watching me

But then they sent me away
To teach me how to be ..................... (sense)
....................... (Logic), .................... (response), ................... (practice)
And then they showed me a world
Where I could be so ........................ (depend)
.................... (Clinic), .......... (intellect), .......... (cynic)

There are times when all the world's asleep
The questions run too deep for such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned?
I know it sounds absurd please tell me who I am

I said, "Now what would you say for they calling you a radical
Liberal, ........................ (fanatic), ...................... (crime)?"
Won't you sign up your name? We'd like to feel you're
........................ (Accept), .................. (respect), .................... (present), a vegetable
Oh, ch-ch-check it yeah

At night when all the world's asleep
The questions run so deep for such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned?
I know it sounds absurd please tell me who I am
Who I am, who I am, who I am

'Cos I'm feeling so illogical
D-d-digital 1,2,3,4
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Unbelievable

Puff the Magic Dragon - Peter Paul and Mary

A song for the past simple - I remember singing this as a kid :) (And no it is not a reference to smoking magic tobacco!) NB a few difficult words!

Puff the Magic Dragon
Puff, the magic dragon ....................... (live) by the sea
And .......................... (frolic) in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Little Jackie Paper ................... (love) that rascal Puff
And ................... (bring) him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff, oh
Chorus
Puff, the magic dragon ..................... (live) by the sea
And ....................... (frolic) in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Puff, the magic dragon ...................... (live) by the sea
And ....................... (frolic) in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee

Together they ..................... (will) travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout ......................... (perch) on Puff's gigantic tail
Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they ................. (come)
Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff ................. (roar) out his name, oh

Chorus

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giants rings make way for other toys
One gray night it ........................ (happen), Jackie Paper .................. (come) no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ......................... (cease) his fearless roar
His head ......................... (be) bent in sorrow, green scales ................... (fall) like rain
Puff no longer .......................... (go) to play along the cherry lane
Without his life-long friend, Puff ........................ (can) not be brave
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly .......................... (slip) into his cave, oh

Chorus

I don't like Mondays - Boomtown Rats

I used this song to introduce the idea of Urban Legends - stories which may or may not be true. The legend behind this one is that Bob Geldof wrote it after he heard about a shooting at a school in America. You could also use it to introduce the idea of weapon control in school or others - you may need to be carefula bout using this song in certain sensitive areas of the world!
